Title: Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)
Presenter: Harry Haus, MD, JD, MBA
Overview: This session will cover the history of the opioid pandemic. We will be discussing screening tools and brief intervention for OUD as well as the medical treatments with buprenorphine, naltrexone, and methadone. We will also discuss the importance of counseling for Opioid Use disorder. We will explore special situations associated with age, acute pain, chronic pain, infection, and pregnancy.
Objectives:
- Know the waves of current Opioid Epidemic
- Know the three drugs FDA approved to treat OUD
- Know Fentanyl is now the leading cause of overdoses in USA
- Learn kinds of harm reduction including Syringe Exchange, Naloxone use, and Fentanyl test strips
- Know how to screen for OUD
- Know how to do induction with MOUD
